The first tiles went down last night in the guest bathroom upstairs...Woohoo! Because of the size and shape of the space there was a good deal of measuring, remeasuring, cutting and recutting to get everything to fit just perfectly around the walls, cabinets, toilet, and two doors. The learning curve wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, and everything seemed to line up and level out fairly well - it's just time consuming! We finished around 12:30 last night with all of the tiles cut but not enough thinset to lay them, and not enough energy to mix another batch. We'll finish this room tonight when we get going on our master bathroom. I love these tiles and am excited to see what they look like downstairs too!
The banisters received their final coat of paint/varnish late last night as well, and we mounted them this morning. This is the color we plan to paint the new front door as well, and we are very pleased - the paint has a nice sheen and smooth finish to it. Here is a before and and after:
After the late night, 6:00 am came awfully early today. Here is the view I woke up to this morning and it made me laugh - what cat sleeps like this?! Patrick was even more reluctant to get up than I was!
